Rangemaster Cooker

Hi There,

I've just discovered that my rangemaster dual fuel cooker is plugged into a socket under my kitchen unit with a 13amp plug.

I've not had a problem with it until today. The cooker was installed when I purchased the house back in 2014.

Today I was using both the grill and cooker as I have done many times before but today it got about 5 mins into cooking when the cooker suddenly turned off. The grill stopped working and the oven stopped working. I checked the circuit breaker and that hadn't tripped and there is a socket on the wall with a switch and red light on.

I did wonder where it was getting its electric power from so I decided to check under the cabinet.

I found a length of what looked like 6mm twin and earth wired into a 13amp plug plugged into a socket. I traced a wire from the socket up to the switch with red light on.

I found that the plug was very hot and when I opened the plug I found the fuse had burned.

I'm guessing I need to get an electrician in to properly wire this in. I can't believe it's been like this all this time and I didn't know. Luckily there hasn't been any fire at all with this.

complete bodge, but easily fixed. post your location and sure one of us be close enough to sort it for you.

Ah the old 2.5 twin & earth in a plug top builders hook up

builders only use 2.5mm as it's so versatile. does for sockets upto 40A, can be bodged into a 1363 plug, and at a push will keep their belly in proximity with their jeans - granny knots are preferred.
