Hi guys.

I have about 10 years of experience within the electrical industry, mainly domestic properties from small houses, to big houses with advanced electrics. Currently working in Canary wharf in a large resedential block of flats.

I actually don't have any electrical qualifications. I wanted to know if I was to do the Advanced Domestic Electrical Part P package with Ableskills, would that be enough to class myself as a 'qualified' electrician. Mainly I want to only be doing domestic properties and go into being NICEIC certified to give electrical certificates. I have seen the 2365 level 2 and 3 course but as that's a lot longer time a would prefer something shorter. What's your opinions on what qualifications I would need?

Thanks

I'd say that the a short course scheme would be ideal for your situation.

However, I belive they would only give you "domestic installer" status rather than electrician.

I think an NVQ lvl3 and AM2 is required for gold card status.

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

JIB do a mature candidate scheme whereby you are assessed. not sure how many hoops you need to jump through, but it's an alternative route to getting a JIB card.for domestic work, you'd still need to be niceic whatever for notifiable works.

If you went down the mature candidate route would give you more options in the future. The training providers do an interview, assess what you have done previously and what gaps in training there are and then set an individual learning plan to do those elements including a portfolio for NVQ 3 and the AM2. Usually people doing it have done 2330/2365 for underpinning theory so not sure what the requirements would be but could be worth asking the question of one of the providers
