Hi,
I had been with Elecsa for years as a Part P installer/tester. Then they were taken over by the NICEIC.
I'm embarrassed to say that I hate them. Elecsa were great, they were great on the phone, the assessors were patient and polite and pleasant.
I do not find the NICEIC to be any of those things.
To be clear I have had two assessments with them and never had issues, but I really don't like them.

My question is, does anyone recommend another scheme that does Part P, (I only work on domestic work now). Due to me age I only do smaller domestic electrical installs, and consumer units. Full rewires would kill me now. I tend to mix in electrical with my domestic gas work as I do both.

Many thanks

  • I took this list from the IET website as to current schemes. Don't know what any of them are like because i am not personally registered but might be worth looking at some of them

I was with Napit when it all started out, then Elecsa for about 10 years then Stroma for about another 8. Currently with Napit again due to the merger a couple of years ago.
Can't fault them really, the people who have conducted my evaluations have always been polite, professional and living in the real world, heck some have even been very helpful and informative too!
I have never had anything to do with NIC but have heard many stories similar to yours over the last year or so. A couple of electricians I know locally have moved over to Napit because of their experience with NIC.
May be worth a try if you are looking to change.

I was with ELECSA for years and like yourself, always found them to be great on assessments, advice etc, then the merger took place and I found like you again that they become very unhelpful.
I'm with NAPIT at the present time and I have to say they have been a great bunch of guys, So at least they are making the effort to be a welcoming, friendly and helpful organisation and very switched on when providing information
