was doing a EICR the other day and was a TT installation, the only earth i was getting was from the kitchen sockets??? i could see no evidence of a supply earth, there is a rod in the basement but the only thing coming off that was a 10mm onto the incoming water pipe!
There was also the gas incomer down there but that wasnt earthed.
My question is, if i used that rod, could i put the MET in the basement and then put the gas and water bonds in it and then run an earth from the MET up to the fuseboard which is in a cupboard on the stairs between the ground and first floor? rather than run 3 earth cables all the way from the basement up the front of the house and in under the first floor floorboards? its easy enough, just more cable!! but the MET would be in the basement not near the meter.

Lables, records and other such similar things is your friend on this one! Nothing to stop you putting a 4 way block by the board / meter in the normal fashion, do your local earthing / bonding on that one, run a 16mm from it to another one in the basement and do the rest there. Then just label as appropriate on the 16mm something like 'basement MET'.

The question is not ''IF'' you used the earth rod in the basement, you ''NEED'' to use that earth rod!! As a matter of interest, what was the Ra value on this earth rod??

You can make all the connections (earth rod, water service, gas service) to a common earth block in the basement area which would become the EMT, and a common cable from the EMT to the MET located within the cupboard. I'm assuming that the service cut-out and the DNO's meter is also housed in the same cupboard??

Have you advised the householder to enquire with the area DNO company, if a PME connection is available on the incoming supply??
