Hi chaps,

I've been converting a van to a camper recently and have been using a Facebook group called Self Build Campervans to generally chat about all things van related.

Found someone earlier giving out what I consider to be rather worrying advice on electrical installations... When challenged I just got the usual "I've done 16 conversions like this, never had a fire" etc...

He then posted up this picture to prove he knows what he's doing... He did this alongside his "qualified sparks" mate so it must be ok...

---- electrics.jpg

Now I could say a few things myself, but wanted some impartial comments, that's where you lot come in ;)

if that's his 16th attempt, i hate to imagine what his earlier efforts were like. monkey's abortion doesn't come close.

That's the dog's do dos Domestic CU on 12v

He also makes reference to 32A three phase and inverters when talking about this bus... along with "earthing" for 12v circuits...

And then accuses me of being a keyboard warrior and troll for telling him he shouldn't be giving out advice on the group!

think what looks like 6mm T/E at back if that bunch may be a 240V feed from a 16A hook-up

OP, can you post a link so we cann take the pi$$.

Self Build Campervans group on Facebook! Can't link as it's a members only group!

Can't believe the attacks I'm receiving over there just for pointing out bad advice! Apparently you're now and "internet troll" for not wanting people to die in electrical fires...

point him to this forum. see if he can justify such a bodge up with guys who have a clue.

I know little about mobile installations, but a couple of obvious ones; T&E used, which isn't flexible enough for an environment with significant vibration, and single insulated wires with no sheath or other mechanical protection.

The configuration of the board is a bit suspect, but a closer view would show more.

stranded cables for final circuits. tri-rated tails for supply. not rocket science. but for muppets with frontal lobotomys, it's a no-go. watch news articles for motorhomes on fire.

Although those batteries look to be in a frame of some sort they don't look as if they are fastened down, one speed hump and you could have problem

OK, point seen don't get the hump. :tt1:

Top left is what looks like a 230v angled socket. Bottom left there is a 230v invertor/charger unit so safe to say its 230v.Hard to see but looks like 2500w.
dont have a problem with the stranded cable but it needs mechanical protection (sheath or some reconised containment)
How big is this Motorhome? A unit that size for a few sockets, lights and a water pump?
Hope that is all not enclosed in a cupboard either as those batterys will give out hydrogen and oxygen during charging (even sealed batterys vent this) Only needs a spark and poof.
let them get on with it all you will get is grief and "it works"

The thing that really concerned me is it's actually a mobile cafe in a double decker!
no problem in burning the bacon then.
