I was talking to a workmate of mine a couple of days ago, he is doing a job which has been designed by a large consultancy, the supply is 2 phase. The consultant has expressed their concerns and said that a 3phase board cannot be used (linking 1 phase or just losing L3) their reason being, well they couldn't explain, but rather babbled on about differences in voltage could exceed 400 etc but could not explain why this happened. they said that the two phases must be two separate single phase DB's

I basically looking to be pointed in the right direction or have an explanation of this. (I installed a 3phase board on a split phase supply a couple of months ago too whoops! It was in the spec of the job)

Is it 2 phases of a three phase supply or actually a split phase supply?

Either way it doesn't matter much, you can use two phases of a TP board or two seperate boards.
But if you use two seperate boards you will need an additional main switch to break both lives to the whole installation

My understanding, is that they don't want two 230V phases.
Don't want one 230V split into two.
The reason given (though not clear) is because voltages will exceed 400V.

He clearly states it is a split phase supply, which in this country is a 480/240 volt supply (460/230 if you believe the bull****) consisting of two phases and a neutral

No the OP clearly states 2 phase.
The OP states that they installed a split phase supply on another job.
