Hi everyone,

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for helping me get this far, thank you.

Well it's finally arrived, AM2S - day 1. As some have said at my works place I might actually finish my apprenticeship before I retire lol cheeky buggers 45 ain't old lol

I'm nervous but fairly calm which is surprising. Sat in McDonald's just going through my head what I need to do today as I'm an hour early lol.

To all the trainees, believe in yourself as the rest of us members believe in you & before you know it you'll be taking your AM2 exam.

Stay safe & all the best

Michael

Good luck mate. Stay calm, don’t panic and I’m sure you’ll sail through. ???

Good luck hon, I hope it all goes off without a hitch.

Take your time, read everything thoroughly before you crack on with each bit and if you do start to feel the pressure, take a step back and take 5.

Well my AM2S is now finally over. Was told results would be in 2 to 3 weeks time!!! So here's hoping lol......

To be honest I had a few moments where I was swearing & losing my temper because of the crap worn out tools, damaged kit & damaged screws etc. I even told the assessor that this wasn't acceptable today.

Came home yesterday freaking out, panicking & wound up, I'm usually such a relaxed person. Thank you @SparkyChick for getting back to me yesterday regarding my questions & my freak out moment ? ? ?

Well I got my results late last night.
Apparently I failed on testing ring continuity, IR & polarity.

I did end to ends, R1+Rn & R1 + R2 fig8 tests etc on the ring.

IR i did globel & then lights & sockets separately. Tested upto the fcu on the heating with the fuse out. I aslo tested from the dol to the motor.

Polarity was previously tested on r1+r2 on the radials. I did a visual check on the L1,L2 & L3. I then did the 10 point live test on the supply side of the main switch

I did have issues with the kit ie lead readings which is where i lost my temper with the kit supplied.

I find it funny that I've failed testing considering i have passed previously my 2392-10 with a different company & also passed the 2391-52 with the same company i just did my AM2S with.

Oh well just need to focus on the testing retake.

I'm sorry to hear that hon.

I totally feel your frustration with the kit at the test centre, especially the test gear... that's what nearly made me lose my cool and my experience has resulted in me never wanting to own a Kewtech MFT.

It may be worth giving the test center a call to try and get some more specific feedback from the assessor so you know exactly what you did wrong.

Sorry to hear Loki. I’m sure you’ll smash it next time. Really, really annoying when you have to use badly maintained and dodgy equipment at training centres. One of the courses I did used Flukes that were badly maintained but my pet hate was trying to assemble sockets and switches that had cross threaded and damage screw terminals. Probably spent more time looking for undamaged kit than actually working. :)

Approach the centre with the concerns over poorly maintained and suitability of kit. Reg 4(2) (Maintenance), Reg 5 (Strength and Capability) - EAWR, also Reg 4 (Suitability), Reg 5 (Maintenance), Reg 6 (Inspection) - PUWER, should help pad put an argument.

Are you not allowed to use your own tools? I mean you could submit the to the centre for inspection

I find it quite surprising that you are not allowed to use your own test equipment?

The idea is it's a level playing field for all candidates. I didn't realise you wouldn't be allowed to use your own kit and I was, to say the least, gutted... stipping cable with side cutters is not one of my favourite pass times.

And yes, being able to use my own kit, I wouldn't have had any issues cause me stress. Thankfully my bay wasn't in too bad a shape, there were no damaged accessories etc. but the kit was just awful. It would have been nice to have been able to have say half an hour to familiarise myself with the Kewtech, once I got a handle on how it behaved it wasn't so bad, but getting that handle took about an hour as I spent an awful lot of time wondering why I was getting weird results for R1+R2 on the lighting circuit.
