Hi guys, this is the scenario, I don't have a thermostat but most of my radiators have thermostatic valves, these are always set to 5 (5 being the highest) and I control the actual temperature from my combo boiler upstairs (which goes from low to high, and there's also an "auto" feature) i have to go upstairs to turn on/off the heating all the time and it's getting a pain, I was gna get a wireless stat ( could someone recommend a good one plz) basically I want to know does the stat overrule the boiler settings ,for example I have the temp on the boiler low but the stat at 30?? Or will I leave it at auto??? Cheers guys :-)

Most C/H wireless room thermostats, are the same, or work in a similar fashion, the room stat will cut offthe boiler regardless of what your rad stats or the boiler is set at, at least mine does

All as above .. BUT do NOT fit your room stat in a room that has a radiator fitted with a TRV.

Remove the TRV and replace it with an ordinary wheel head type (ordinary radiator valve) otherwise you'll never be able to control the damned thing!!

Boiler stat over rules room stat the boiler stat controls the temp of the water leaving the boiler, so if you put room stat on 30 the boiler will still cut on and off

Didn't realise we had so many plumbers moonlighting as electricians on here ........ or should it be the other way around ;)

............. and if the TRV (on the radiator) is set lower than the room stat then that will cut off before the roomstat and that is why you don't put both in the same room. ;)

You wouldn't get near me ..... you'd be chasing the smoke from the dual pipes on me V8 as I was giving you the 'bird' :)

Aaah yes, like grumbling and "stitching the **** up" on the A1. (both at the same time) :dita:

Well yes .. that's one of my skills. :)

WHY AREN'T YOU AT WORK NOW EARNING MONEY TO KEEP ME IN THE LIFESTYLE TO WHICH I HAVE BECOME ACCUSTOMED????!!!!

too right geordie. can't have 'em lozecking about the house all day ( unless they're doing the washing, ironing, cooking, cleaning etc.)

I would disagree with this, I've been wiring new gas installs for a good while now and 9/10 the best place to fit a stat is a living room. I did at one point fit them in the hall, which always had the one non trv'd radiator and more often than not the tenants/customers would complain the heating clicked off before the main rooms were hot....

so we started fitting them in the living rooms because this is the room most ppl spend their time and also if it got too hot and the other rooms were cool, you simply turned down the trv slowing the heat going into that room and giving the rest of the house time to heat

thats just my opinion but lol

id also recommend danfoss thermostat/timers. Either the tp5000 or tp7000 are my usual favourites

You disagree with what????

In fact you're almost in complete AGREEMENT with me!!

The living room is exactly where I fit a roomstat too for the same reasons that you yourself do... I have NEVER seen the sense in fitting it in the hall because not many folk sit in the hall watching TV or eating their dinner - just as you have indicated!!

All I said was don't have a TRV )that's a Thermostatic Radiator Valve in the same room as a Room Stat!!

You say slowly turn the TRV down, but you get more control just slowly turning an ordinary wheel head valve down on the radiator.

Other than that we are in agreement!! :)
