Discuss Surge, variable transformer, regulator all in one? in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

I travel a lot.
With me I carry a charger for my shaver, my laptop, my ereader, my phone, my toothbrush, and that's before we get to any diagnostic stuff for work.

When I get to where I'm going often then power supply is terrible. I've been on boats where the Hz varies between 50-60hz and in countries with power surges enough to pop PSUs wired at way too low capacity.

What I need is something fairly light and portable that will act as:

1) surge protection
2) variable voltage (to save space)
3) possibly even variable ampage (to save even more space)
4) variable plug probes to fit common applications
5) charge regulation

I once forgot to pack the mobile phone power supply so I used a generic USB battery charger with metal probes. As handy as this thing is it worked to charge the phone battery once but then stopped the battery from working.

Is there anything like this ^ on the market? That is, something that can take a very wide variety of AC currents and smooth them into a nice smooth DC current. What words should I be searching for or is this something I have to cobble together myself?
