The above periodical just arrived today with a free trial of design genie so I popped it in thinking worth a shot but I cant do much with it there has to be a simpler desing software package out there although I dont have much call for it but I was going to submit a quote for a bigish job and I thought I would submit a pro looking design back to the drawing board or rather the A4 pad

What are you trying to design, building layout, and as fitted drawings....reason I asked is most of the industry is Auto Cad.
With most industrial jobs, the drawings are already done by the building contractor and passed to each trade, saving a lot of work.
Auto Cad LT is a cheaper version but still quite expensive, but it is worth the investment.

Just a circuit layout over 3 floors and all the various subs

With any design package, its how much time you can commit to drawing it all out, the building company would usually email you the drawing all drawn up in Auto cad....then you can just open it up add the electrical layer, and add your layout to the drawing. Plumbers, security and fire companies etc, will all add their layers. The construction company now have a complete drawings of all disciplines. This can be really useful to ensure your containment will not conflict with, say with the sprinkler pipes. Turning on all layers will show a full co-ordenated drawing.
Hope this gives some idea how useful and time saving Auto Cad can be when working on commercial builds.

I am affraid I am old school when it comes to this software driven stuff, it is anything but simple so its off to the pub for me and the CD is now in the potting shed where next year it will join may more on string along my sowing line for peas, broad beans, etc as the shinny side is an excellent scarecrop

Im touching 50...and had to come off the drawing board to the pc in the early 90`s....lol
