The mother in-law is on holiday in Australia for a month visiting family and the wife is going around every day to feed the cat and check the house is ok etc.

On Saturday night whilst at her mothers the wife phoned me saying that the garden has been broken into and all of the fish pond gear has been stolen! Filtration system, pumps, heaters and they even took the bloody garden lights from around the pond!

Did the scumy little ********'s unplug everything or disconnect the numerous pipes? Of course they didn't, they just ragged it out using brute force. IP socket box ripped off the wall with broken socket showing live conductors close to the wet grass. Buried pipes pulled up from the ground taking some plants with it, not a big deal I know but she loves her garden and puts in a lot of time and effort into it (family home for 30 years).

Police not interested unless we find foot prints or blood at the scene so on Saturday night I could only make safe.

Sunday in the light of day what a mess they have made! Stolen about £500 worth of gear + about £100 in damaged pipes (have to be replaced) + at least 2 days work for a sparky to re-install due to cable damage as it comes from the ground (needed renewing anyway but that's not the point). Spent most of Sunday fitting IP socket boxes, new heater so the fish don't freeze and I put up 3 security lights covering the full length of the garden. Not the way I wanted to spend my day off and of course its all free of charge lol.

Not a nice thing to come home to after a month away, she is going to go mental when she sees it.

electric fence... but makes you wonder have they seen this garden equipment while there doing something else or isit open to the world to walk in

Electric fence lol. I did think about rigging something up but that would be like locking the barn door after the horse has bolted.

It's in a nice area (but close to a rough area kind of thing) and its secluded, no passing foot traffic, can't see it from the street, only the surrounding houses.

One way in/out and didn't climb over the fence, I didn't find any foot prints or blood lol.

It must be stolen to order or it will end up on flee bay in the next few days/weeks.

Sorry to hear that mate.

You should install these in case they come back. They're pretty good. They're not preventative but may catch the filthy scum bags if they try it again.

ESP GuardCam Security Light CCTV Camera System with Voice Alert

Good product, my local wholesaler had a working model on display until we all complained about it going off every 30s and getting on our nerves.

I was going to put up a couple of dummy cctv but the wife said no. I've got the neighbours looking out for us and may even get a couple of jobs out of them aswell.

cue shameless opportunistic sales opportunity...:blush5:
........Or buy it here for considerably less than all those advertised prices (and free delivery):hurray:

Shameless, absolutely shameless but I like it. How many people pop up with a materials problem that you could help out? Quite a few and why not? You pay for advertising on the forum to keep it free for us to use it.

Paul is the MIL insured for garden equipment, as you have a police number, you maybe able to claim.

Scant consolation mate, but it could mean you putting a bill in a getting paid mate, and of course replacing the bits and bobs

Already asked the wife about that. Don't think she will claim in the fear of increasing her premiums.

We haven't told her yet, don't want to spoil her holiday. Just waiting until she gets back and decides what she wants to do. There is other none related electrical works that need doing so I may as well take a week off and do it all in one go.

Monkeys are good at maths. We're good at adding percentages too. Like say 20% to £75.

Monkeys (well this one anyway) don't like paying the dreaded.

Anyway, this thread isn't about the mathematical skills of a primate, It's about Paul M doing an insurance job on his mother in law's garden.

You make it sound like I put on my burglars outfit and robed her so I can get some insurance work! Things arnt that bad yet (yet) :).

This will not be claimed on the insurance I bet. It will consist of her buying new or recondictioned fish pond stuff, me getting cable, sockets, switches, new 4 way cu for the garage and prity garden lights. Oh and a new shovel :).

Just makes me sick that some little :censored: can take what they want, leave a mess and put a financial burden on the victim all to make a bit of drug money or to put it in their own garden. Get a job, earn money, save money and buy the things you want. Stop taking things from others that have worked hard to have the things they have. Rant over.

sry to read this,,, just seems to be the norm these days,,,,cant have anything without some scum looking at ways to make few easy quid,,,,had some ****e try to get into my garage few months back luckily the dog herd and the ran before i could get the door open,,,,needless to say the metal up and over door ever gets lifted other than me ,,,,,,,,,,,someone is in for a shock,,,,,

What I hate is that we have to add extra security to ensure our goods are still there, but in doing so it looks like we may have some expensive stuff to steal due to the extra security.

I wonder if your inlaws house would have done over if they we NOT on holiday, maybe this was planned as if they knew they were not there or be there for a while.

Some scally tried breaking into my house when i was at work a few weeks back to steal my motocross bike (im single so its my dining room feature).Luckily my neighbour heard him and scared him off.
Since then ive fitted alarm mines around the back.Alarm mines are used by farmers to alert them or scare off poachers.
They use a trip wire to trigger a 12 guage blank shot gun cartridge. The mechanism only around £15 and the blanks are £10 for 5.....very cheap but effective....also legal as its only classed as pyrotechnics.
Ive also fitted an alarm with x3 115db internal sounders and ive now taken the wheels off and keep them in my van.
I know that if there that determined to get my bike, the chances are they will get it.I just like to think that if they do it will be at the expense of their hearing!!
Now bikes, cars ect are all vulnerable to theft........but fish pond equiptment....it just goes to show you really cant have ANYTHING

Sorry to hear this . Some people just can't help them selfs can they.

2Weeks ago my Mum & Dad went up to bed as normal, and the next day my dad got up and went to make a cup of tea. When he got to bottom of the stairs the door was wedged. He thought it was strange cause they dont shut it because of the cat. Turns out someone broke in and cleared them out , My Mum has just got through cancer and a burst bowel that lead her to have a stroke, so she is on loads of pills etc and could at any time need to be rushed in hospital. Well they took the car , pills, everything electrical and bank cards ,money etc even old photos.

She was beside herself and really upset so was my dad as they took his car which was his pride and joy & transport to get my mum to hospital if she needed it. They took the TV Off the wall , even though it was all wired in the walls ,all the computer leads and wireless stuff. All while they slept & they set the car alarm off 3.00 in mornin, which next door herd but didn't think anything of it , as he has got cctv on the cars and his house. But! he never switched it on that night. typical !
Well the police come and done what they had to do . Theu managed to find a blood sample on the garden gate. Anyway they gave them a crime number and left.

Didn't think they cared that much as this allways happens to someone. Well got a phone call today that the police had got him in custody and he had kitted his flat out with their stuff. Couldn't believe it , he had burnt out the car and they don't know what they will get back yet.
Best thing is my little brother is inside doin couple months for driving offences , He going to wait for him to go inside then he going to give him what for and teach him a lesson.

Hammerwell I'm very sorry to hear your perents predicament and I wish them all the best. It always happens to the nicest people.

I've given you a like and a thanks, not for the heart renching story but for the last paragraph. Karma comes back around (in cell block B lol).

Paul I have something I can lend you that might help mate ............. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1327366113.412562.jpg

years ago there was a landrover parked in a side street near where I worked and in the window was a sign which read"THIS VEHICLE IS NEVER LOCKED AND THE KEYS ARE LEFT ON THE BACK SEAT,under the rottweiler"and sure enough asleep in the back was one of the biggest rottweilers I,ve ever seen, wonder if he got a discount on his insurance for his anti theft device? on a cheerier note a chap near me was broken into some years ago and on entering the kitchen found blood everywhere, police came and found a man in the field with a large strip torn from his back,300 stitches later whilst being interviewed he said he was ok robbing the house as the dogs hadn,t bothered, until the bitch with the pups growled at him resulting in the large male rottweiler taking exception to his presence and removing said strip of skin.

The way forward, just crazy when you protect your own property you can feel you cant protect your home and family the way you should be able to if someone does come in without thinking of the police being on the side of the scum scroat that let themselves into your home,

String em up and burn them slow,

Cautionary tale:

Paul, sorry to hear about your problem.

Here's another account - our best local plumber/heating man was burying his father - thieving little villains drove across the field at the back of his house (straight through the crop) and stole all his stuff from the garden shed - tools, pipes, etc. The track across the field was straight to his back fence - how did they know?

I think you've just invented a new Internat three letter acronym - TLV!

As a 12/13 year old I used to walk dogs for a friend of my mothers. On leaving school I’d walk around to the house where the dogs would be waiting for me to take them out.

So one day I walked around to the back of the house to let myself in, by this time the dogs would normally be barking. SILENCE! Something’s strange, walked past the broken window and let myself in, went to the lounge where the dogs were never normally allowed in. Sat in an armchair is Burglar Bill, with 3 Airedales sat around him. “Please call them off”, “no I can’t, I don’t know how”. So I phoned the police and then the owner. “DON’T let the police in the house otherwise they’ll be sat on the chair as well!” The police arrived and waited outside while I served tea biscuits to them and B Bill. The dogs never bothered me at all. About an hour and a half later she arrived, one word and all the dogs just lay down and plod took our friend away.

The dogs had been trained by an ex RN marine. They would let anyone in, god help them if they tried to get out! The perfect rattrap!

The only danger I had from the dogs was being drowned in slobber!

A similar thing involved a friend of mine who parked his van in the car park of a social club in the Sunderland area.

A little toerag appeared & asked him for money "to look after your van". My friend pointed to the dog that he's left sitting in the driving seat at which point he toerag asked: "Is he any good at putting fires out?"

Security firms now patrol the cars parked round some of the bigger football grounds Personaly I feel this is doing wee ned entrepuner ouut of a job and teaching him the responcablity of working for money IE "ill look after your motor for ten bob MR!" he( mr ned boy) was out there all weathers watching your car so no other neds attacked said motor and on your return after watching your team win your car was there same condition as you left it Security firms have done this wee guy of not only a job but they have forced him to go steal from other sources leading to his being put in jail and not being able to support Kylie and her 3 children It will also make him feel worthless and unemployable leading him to claim benefits for years to come

another thing that you dont see now due to government ,and theiving scumbags causing regulations to be brought in are the gadgies who hail, rain shine were out with their shopping trolleys going round the skips, sites taking the scrap cuttings that were thrown out or collecting the Glass Cheque ( returnable pop bottles ) Hence leading to them now selling the big issueeeeeeeeeeeee or theiving AAAAAAAAAAAAAA the good old days

other things which have lead to problems are the stopping of Police clipping you round the lug (short sharp and painfull ) instead they have to lift you fill in triplicate paperwork take the day to go to court alll eating into time money that could be better spent
