I am staying at a holiday let that has an Aga. I have no experience of them (or working on them) being a dirty Londoner born & bred!

There seems to be a cover missing on the thermostat. I have not brought my voltmeter on holiday funnily enough (!) But I am fairly certain that i would find mains voltage on that exposed conductor! Am I right?!

My son is toddling about & this is very much situated at his level. I am a bit worried by this. There is dual rcd protection at the CU but I'd rather it didn't come down to this. My son is 22 months!

What would you do??

forgive my ignorance but if you are that worried about an exposed live part then why don't you just shut the door like it should be?

It is shut but very easy to open. But the photo wouldnt have shown much with a shut door lol!

No. If it did it would be as safe as a socket or switch but no my son could open this door and expose this live part(s)

Not on an AGA, the doors are not secured in any way.

Are you sure it has any mains supply to it?
The older ones don't always have a mains supply but just use a thermopile to operate the gas valve

It all depends how old it is, all the new ones I've seen fitted we've had to put a supply in for.
I know some of the older ones don't have a supply and just use a thermopile (like some pool boilers) but I don't know whether that was just gas ones or oil too.
I'll see if I can find out a bit more, I'm sure I've got some documents buried somewhere

Ok, oil fired agas with no mains supply do exist and the fact it has manual control suggests that this could be one of them.
The new ones need a mains supply to run the intelligent wireless control jobby they have these days.
Obviously I can't say for certain based on a picture.
Is there any sign of mains supply going to it?

I believe you should find it is low voltage (12) running from a transformer. At least all the ones I've seen were, however test before touching just to be safe !

If it should move or open and doesn't use WD40 if it opens and shouldn't use Duct Tape! Cheap temp option to keep your kid safe.

Not suggesting to use Duct tape on your kid, even if it crossed your mind
