Just looking for a bit of advice, I'm just dropping in from the Electricians forum next door.
I'm living in a rented house which has an oil fired boiler, twenty plus years old, last serviced who knows when.
The radiators have never got hot, some warm, but not hot. I know previous tenants have complained about it and the land lard changed some of the rad's for doubles, I think this probably just made things worse. I tried for ages to change the balance of the rad's to get more performance but no real gains were made.
I thought there could be sediment blockage so I removed the downstairs rad's and flushed, I did get lots of black gunk out but its still not made much difference to performance. The upstairs rad's get hotter than down. I tried reducing the speed of the heating pump but this makes things worse, full speed gets the rad's the hottest.
I've shut off all the upstairs rad's except the small bathroom rad, that's 1 out of 7, and downstairs I've shut off 1 of the 4. That leaves only four rads working out of eleven and they're still not that hot! The top gets hot but I can still just about hold onto it, but bottom middle is luke warm at best, and one out of the three rad's downstairs is luke warm all over.
So can it be that there is a pump problem, or is the boiler just not up to the job any more, if it ever was?
I need to be ready when I confront the land lard because I know he will try and palm me off with excuses, and at best I get the handyman who does a bit of plumbing.
Many thanks for any help.
