Hi all

Went to look at a consumer unit change today.
Supply is tncs
all bonding is correct.

I noticed that where the supply is there is no main earthing terminal.
The consumer unit has been used for all bonding and circuit cpcs.

Just wondered weather i should install new met at point of supply and run the cables here or leave at the consumer unit. It will be a bit tricky to do this though.

Just wanted to hear your opinions.

Cheers

Thanks guys.
As its a 5 bed house the water and gas points are oposite sides of the house and then the main supply is at the middle.

I think the installers just wanted to make life easier for themselves by running through ceiling voids into the cu.

Ill have to check when i go out next if its viable to run the bonding back to main supply and add a m.e.t
id prefer to do this but depends whats in the way!

Thanks for the replies guys

As malcolmsanford says, nothing wrong with the existing situation. There's no regulation that says how close the MET has to be to the supply head, so inside the CU is just fine. Why ask the customer to pay for re-arranging the bonding if it's not needed?

I note there's no mention of a main earth in this CU earth bar, have you confirmed it's presence by a properly carried out Ze test?

Do whatever you feel most comfortable with, I usually stick an MET next to the CU as I forget to put the bonding wires into the CU first and have to mess up all of my beautifully neat work!

well for a start the less joints you have in a cable...the better as i see it....so you decide....take the main earthing into the C/Us earth bar....or take it to an MET...and from there into the C/Us earth bar?.....your call fella....
