I am going to install an e.l.v fan in a bathroom. The nearest place i can site the transformer is beneath the bath.Which i interpret in the 17th is outside any zones if the side panel is accessable with a special tool i.e could be a screwdriver.I presume the transformer does not have to be ip rated as it falls outside protected zones. Can anyone confirm this is acceptable please? There is no other place i can situate the transformer that is accessable really.!!! and obviously safe.

Pretty obvious i know, but just to add primary side 230v & secondary 12v or there abouts:D

I can't speak about UK rules, but what I can say is that some factory-built baths come with one or several transformers and various similar electrical equipment already installed below the bath. Something pretty catastrophic would have to happen to the bath for the transformer to get wet under there. Barring other special rules, I wouldn't hesitate to place it there.

absolutely - its outside the zones

I am just fitting a supply for one of these space age 'steam' showers, with a radio, lights, MP3 connection (and i am not sure but i think its got SatnaV)

so its a socket under the showerbasin - no problems:)

>>Why can't it go up in the loft above the bathroom?>>
What if the bathroom is on the ground floor -;)

Why the need to have it so close?
Read the instructions first bet there is a table giving distance between fan & transformer & csa of cable to be used over said distance.

Xpelair LV100 I've just firstfixed the tranny is in the airing cupboard some 12 meters away from the fan itself.

Cheers lads thats what makes this site so good,i appreciate everyone taking the time to answer my question all noted and taken on board.Should have said couldnt mount tranny in loft as it is a flat& concrete ceiling.Suggestions about putting near triple pole isolator, which i normally fit outside bathroom above door, would this not look a bit ugly and obtrusive?? without sounding ungrateful for the idea.

I have on two occations put them in the stud wall beside the TP isolation switch above bathroom door, then installed a small white plastic access hatch that I got from B&Q.
