During Major Outage, When we opened our 143MVA Turbo Generator for inspection & testing, de-coloring of winding was observed i.e. anti chrona coat/paint was missing from 9 spots on stator winding.
What could be the reason for that & how critical it can be? If winding insulation is there in good condition & only a small portion of anti chrona coat is missing, should one go for repair? What could be the possible remedies?
Moreover, our Gen. is just 5 years old & it was its first Major overhaul.

Hey.

I would say it's worth a call to the manufacturer to see if they've encountered this before especially as it's only 5 years old.

I would have said that heat is the major contributing factor, but also dont think it's an issue as you have said the winding insulation is still intact.

My only other thought would be has it always been like that? as this is it's first overhaul you may not have noticed it before.

Cheers.

Whats age got to do with it?

Hey.

Well depending on it's actual duty cycle I would say quite a bit as it's still relatively new.

What I would say is that we used to inspect our gensets every 3 months at night time when things were quiet, so would have probably picked up on this sooner, but maybe the OP isn't able to do this.

I think it should be inspected more than every 5 years though.
