Hey,

I have a shed in my garden that was built and wired up by my granddad a lonnng time ago and it currently uses 2 core/twin and earth cable but the cable is red and black - I believe it's 2.5mm as it's for two plug sockets and a couple of lights (existing).

I'm wanting to come off the existing circuit in the shed to add an additional socket in the shed and potentially a an RCD outdoor socket. As far as I'm aware you can't get red and black twin and earth anymore because of regulation changes.

So my question is - am I able to come off of the existing circuit/wiring from red and black to the blue and brown twin and earth to add in the two new sockets?

TL;DR
Am I able to come off of the existing circuit/wiring from red and black to the blue and brown twin and earth to add in the two new sockets?

apologies for late response... just seems to be one of those messages that gets lost.

Yes, by all means use brown and blue instead of red and black... (red to brown, and black to blue) and the less joint boxes the better.... saying that, there is much more involved in altering the wiring than getting the right colours.

Is the existing installation RCD protected? How is the cable routed to outside? Is it a dedicated radial circuit from board or spurred off the socket circuit in the house?
A little more detail if you could.
