hi guys and dolls just doing an extension ,new utility and enlargement of kitchen ,plans say ext fan in utility and kitchen ,(kitchen is on a cooker hood fan ) does the utility need to have an overrun fan in it ?I'm thinking not as the cooker hood will not be timed and there is more likely to be steam in the kitchen than in utility ? cheers

Most LABC's ask for a humid stat fan these days......

EDIT: what do the plans actually say... and don't forget the smokes!

Time to have a look in the building regs as you will need to be aware of the minimum extract rate required for utility rooms (30 L/s off the top of my head but don't quote me) and as Murdoch says humidistat is the way to go.

Run a 3core and earth just in case and see what building control want. If the utility room didn't have a openable window then it would of had to have a run on timer with the minimum run on set to 15mins .

As you are in Scotland I can't really say anymore but on my immediate patch and the adjacent one, the BC's do require humidstat fans with 30l min.

Can you check with your building control?

Not unless ormskirk has become a satellite of the people's Republic of scotland
Scottish building regs asks for 30l sec in a utility no mention of humidistats.

ha ha nearest i've ever been to scotland is carlisle . we were working on the magistrates court building that had been flooded .We were working below the courthouse and one of the magistrates locked up my mate for 24 hours for contempt of court cos he was making a noise working with power tools trying to refurb the building ,while all the yobos were outside the court drinking and smoking . great british justice

Not doubting your story, pal, but a single magistrate has not got that power....he didn't get a cavity search did he? He may have been punked...:bobby:
