Discuss What am I allowed to do in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

DIY wiring ? You mean you found someone who actually admitted to having done it themselves? Have you thought about trying to find the Loch Ness monster? I think finding either is about the same odds. The closest I have come is family members "grassing" the husband/dag/brother as the silly sod that done "it" lol.
To be fair in recent jobs I have had people try to change their own consumer unit and the RCD keeps tripping and they just can't work out why at which point they have no where to hide to call me , admit they picked up a cheap consumer unit from Screwfix and had a go at doing it themselves...I have given up explaining they weren't really supposed to be doing that , I just tell them my hourly rate , book a time to pop round and find the borrow N and say the board the brought is a pile of ---- and price to fit a RCBO board which 9 /10 they agree to

What usually happens is the Husband spends 20 mins feeding me a load of crap and when i find the problem and show him and his wife the problem they go off and i either hear her say " I told you you should have left it alone" or " Why did you get that bloke from down the road to it?"

OP, what sort of work were you thinking of doing? Is it work that would need testing, and if so do you have the equipment and knowledge to test and certify?
