Hi, I have just built an entertainment unit in the lounge with 4 shelf’s on either side, I want to install lights above shelf’s (feature lights) but I am unsure which ones to buy (normal downlights?) would 12v be better that 230v ones and what wattage??any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thankyou

Normal down lights need a cutout to sink into…. The “hockey puck” type ones stick out 12mm or so.

Personally, I’d use 12v LED tape lights. Can run the smaller cable easily to a hidden LED driver, and just plug it in with the media equipment.

You can get tape that colour changes RGB, and also with sound detection so it changes with the music beat.

Cheap stuff on Amazon or eBay, but don’t expect it to last forever.

Hi, sorry should of mentioned I have had the cables (230 supply) run in and waiting above plaster board in shelf’s, I have 180mm height and 140mm width gap in between for lights, so would prefer down or spots if possible so can switch on wall.
Thankyou for reply
