I've noticed the younger ones are changing the terminology of things throughout the building trade, I just wondered if the same thing is happening throughout the electrical world?

If we have male plugs that identify as female then that is just fine, they will still fit into the female sockets that are provided.
likewise if we have sockets that would like to identify as male, that is not an issue in my mind.

however if we have female sockets that decide to undergo a physical change to help them with there gender reassignment and therefore have male pins sticking out of the wall, I think we can all agree that this would be a danger to anyone who dares to touch them.
likewise a plug that has identified as female and has undergone "the change" will no longer be able to connect with a socket that has not undergone "the change" however it could connect with the dangerous socket listed above.

I suspect that gender reassignment is not a good way for our plugs and sockets to consider but they can identify as whatever the fcuk they want to in my opinion as long as they fit together "mate" then everything will still work.

Male and female threads are understood by most people.
It is a simple comparison between sticky out bits and similar holes that they fit in to.
Like I said, I don’t care what anyone identifies as, but physics and biology are well defined sciences and as grown ups, we all know what goes in where.

Calling things by comparison to physical traits of male and female humans, or other mammals is is normal and not to be considered as offensive to any reasonable person.

Now that may be considered offensive to some of the LBZQT community and any other letters that like to take offence to things!!

I must admit that as a teenage apprentice, in the 70's, asking for nipples or male/female bushes at a wholesalers didn't produce the slightest thoughts of any sexual connotation. It never has since, either. They were, and still are, electrical equipment parts and always had been, simple as that.
Might have been different in a Soho shop, never asked.

I am lost with all these strings of letters. I do like a BLT and occasionally might advise someone to GTF but the seemingly ever-expanding acronym for those who identify as something other than the two normal genders messes with my brain

What a load of ballocks (or lack of)

We deal with engineering terminology… we know what male and female means… if we have to change it to pins and holes, then I’m sure we will manage.

When it comes to electrics…. What we don’t want is a live component that can be easily touched… hence why the live things are in the bottom of a hole, and the dead pin has to be inserted fully to make it live.

“Coax” itself is a geometry term.. co axial…. Two circles sharing the same centre point

“Trans” is just a prefix derived from Latin, meaning “across” or “through”…. And in engineering terms…. Transformers, transistors,…

I don’t know why people get so worked up about simple words.

The acceptance of “not standard” terms of gender, or whatever, would likely be taken up quicker and easier if some people were not so militant about it.

People that don’t understand someone else’s thoughts and beliefs need to be educated…. Not critisized.

That basic stuff takes me back to the blackboard and chalk days.
But even that's taboo these days.

BTW, is a transplant one which bends both ways?

a dimmer,
fwd - off - rev selector sw,
2 way lighting?
or finally a a broken light switch may go on, off or maybe!!!

Maybe i am considered a dinosaur but in general i am pretty open to anyone's beliefs.

I don't care what religion you are as long as you don't force it on me.
I will do my best to be respectful of other peoples beliefs but draw the line when people start telling me what I can and cant do.

I have no interest in weather you are male, female, any gender you decide to be at that moment in time (unless I would like to mate with you)
your sexual orientation is of no concern to me unless the (as above applies)

but I do worry a little about the people who get so wound up about pro-nouns and suggest that i should not assume "for instance"

that the big hairy tattooed biker would prefer to be addressed as he or him and i should consider or possibly ask if they prefer she and her. (sometimes this sort of question may be considered a form of suicide!!)

equally the high heeled low cleavage blond that "in my dreams" i try to chat up, might not appreciate me asking if they prefer to be addressed as he, him, or charming .
instead of she, her and drop dead gorgeous.

Boolean logic is binary zeros and ones….

But there is also “fuzzy” logic… that sounds better.

Maybe we should call them “fuzzy gendered”?
quantum computers have more than 2 states as well but that is well above my level of understanding!!

Its now called a chalk board!
or of course the alternative now days is the white board "hmmm, how is that better than the blackboard?"
but thankfully technology has prevailed and the schools that can afford to be totally PC can educate the children.
not with BLACKboards
not with WHITEboards
but with interactive presentation devices.

now isn't that better for all?!!

Read somewhere this morning that Star Wars are removing the "light" and "dark" sides of the force.

Is there something i can get offended for just because i am left-handed?

But can they be totally PC if the use Apple devices as well

Will Soy sauce will be next

As a left hander myself when you look at the amount of things made that only really suit right handers there is a lot to go at or if you want the left handed version you pay more for it

Had someone a while ago trying to wind me up about a left handed saw another guy onsite took the bait when my response was you can get them and I have one at home in my unusual tools collection

Talking about terminologies in the electrical industry it has changed quite a bit, CPC for earth conductor, distribution circuit for sub main, socket for coupler, RFC for ring main, that's just off the top of me head. However it's still jargon and any experienced sparkie will understand.

but with interactive presentation devices.
We went to see dreadzone a few weeks back, in the field there was a young girl sitting on a potty totally absorbed in her 'interactive presentation device'. I was going to take a photo as it was a sign of modern times that I don't really agree with but quickly realised that if I was seen taking a photo of a two year old girl on a potty I could have some questions to answer!
