Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against an electrician who allegedly installed hidden cameras in the bathrooms of at least two homes where he was hired to perform electrical work.

Sheriff's deputies believe **************, 34, of Rancho Cucamonga, may have victimized several other people, because a search of his home yielded video footage of unidentified women in bathrooms.

he was arrested last week and charged with two felony counts of burglary and two misdemeanor "peeping Tom" charges.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges in West Valley Superior Court on Friday and remains in custody at West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $285,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Evidence of him secretly viewing or recording video footage first surfaced on Aug.7 in a home in the 6400 block of Cambridge Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga, according to a police report attached to his court file.

he was doing electrical work at the home, which is owned by a general contractor who told police he had known him for five years and had hired him to do electrical work in about 80 percent of his jobs.

In the bathroom at the home, on the floor beside the toilet, he had left a power tool with a camera attached to it.

After he was confronted by residents and asked about the camera, he wrote a letter stating he had a camera attached to the power tool to enable him to lower the tool into walls and view footage from the camera as he was doing his work.

A woman who lives at the home contacted authorities on Sept. 9.

When deputies searched the home, they found an audio receiver and a video recorder in the attic. On the video recorder's hard drive, they found footage of a woman changing clothes in a bathroom.

Investigators showed the footage to the general contractor who owned the home, and he recognized the bathroom - it belonged to a friend who recently remodeled his home, and he had hired him to do the electrical work.

In the bathroom at the home, police found a small hidden camera on the bottom plate of an electrical socket, according to the police report.

he was arrested on Oct. 28, and in interviews with police admitted to installing hidden cameras to record women without their knowledge.

He also said that he had installed a hidden camera in his home to record the women who lived in the apartment adjacent to his.

When asked by the sheriff's detective why he did it, he replied, according to the report: "Because they were hot. It was an opportunity that I should have never considered, but I did it, and it's going to ruin my life."

At his home in the , investigators found bathroom video footage of other women, many of whom are still unidentified, according to the police report.

when i was installing the lighting in the strip clubs the guy doing the cctv was known as "The Perv" thhats what all the trades used to say when he came in the building as he had done a few of the others and was forever telling them that the hard drives needed replacing YEH right

It begs the question as to whether any of us really want one of those endoscopic cams for looking into walls at all now ;)

Seriously, not long ago, I was asked to do a covert CCTV system, which was not what I expected.

Guy asked me to quote for him, wanted "proper hidden" cameras in the house, in EVERY room, because he was convinced his wife was at it behind his back, at home.

I pointed out to him, that it wasn't really feasible or morally right for us to install any kind of camera whatever in his en-suite, or family bathroom - he had a fourteen year old daughter, ffs! - and that if his wife was going to be doing anything anywhere, statistically, the most likely places IN the home for her to be doing it were (a) the Master Bedroom, (b) The Guest Bedroom (again camera NOT advised) (c) kitchen diner. (d) Lounge.

I suggested it would be enough to put a camera looking at the front door, and one on the landing - and maybe one looking from the front door to the kitchen, and one in the lounge.

He was insistent that cameras were going to be fitted in every room, including his daughter's room, and the bathrooms.

I let the police know on my way out, having refused to help further.

Found it kinda sick.

I did suggest to him at one point it would be cheaper to "come home early" one day....by the way.

"He told the woman that in order for him to check for leaks, she would be required to take a shower."

or the nightclub toilet scenario, wouldnt do it,tho it is legal, covert laws need to be sorted out,as open to abuse

too right. i know a manager of one of his clubs that got sacked for watching the girls as he should not be. cameras are good in the right places to do the right job ie deter although we are that used to them now i don`t think its putting people off as they should be

I like this line

"I'm sure this is not the first time he's pulled this type of thing,"

Well, it is covered, to a greater or lesser extent, by the Data Protection Act. To be fair, the DPA CCTV Code of Practice is as much a nightmare as you're likely to find, but the essence of covert recording is that it is acceptable so long as you have a reasonable, demonstrable belief that crime is, or is about to be, committed.

In the case of nightclub toilets, there is a body of reliable evidence to indicate that drug dealing is "reasonably likely" to be carried out, and therefore, providing a camera does not record "intimate" personal data (e.g. you taking a dump), the footage will be acceptable, and depending upon quality, admissible.

IMHO, THAT is the place most CCTV systems fall down - compliance with the DPA, which in turn leads the CPS to throw the evidence out, which collapses a case.

I was involved some while ago for another company in the implementation of an ANPR system for one of the police services in the UK. You'd think of all parties, those guys would have been up to the mark on DPA.....not one image they captured, not one number plate in six months would have made it through a court challenge......I was sooooo tempted not to tell them :)

i know! its horrendous especially the kiddie bit! and what made it worse was the girls he captured were ugly as ----! when our sub came out of dry dock HMS OCEAN docked down but we still used the office and communal facilities and we would see the girls !! YUK minging! and when it came to light what had happened word spreads quickly and you can start putting faces together! lol..! i would rather have chewed my -------s off than smack the duck over them girls!
