Punter asks for a sign to be put up, take one down. Its about 8 ft across by 4ft. Height 20 ft ish to the top. Ladders will be at a more steep angle than the usual, as it's in an alley way. 2 men job, probably an hour.
£100 of your Engerlish Pounds I say! Poncey web designer bloke informs me he feels 'that's too dear for an hours work'
See ya I say!

Strewth.

rip it down , and squirt hard as nails all over it, and say you got what yo payed for

If the client did not get a quote to start with then tough poo poo and cough up !
If he does not pay up i am sure sign will/should find itself through a window relating to the business lol :innocent:

If a quote to client and they did not like then so be it, lucky escape

Dead right. I'm sure someone will doff their cap to 'sir' and carry out said task for buttons.

as im scared of going high up ladders id need powered access so £100 is cheap lol,and these people push buttons on a keyboard and charge redicoulos rates for the privalege

its very cheap!! And they told me 2 other blokes had let them down too!! The price of everything and the value of nothing springs to mind.

£100 for 2 men for 1 hour is expensive over here in Northern Ireland. Fair play to you if in Manchester you get £50 an hour for a man. No one here would pay it

Hawk, it's not just one hours work is it? what about the journey, the ladders, the tools, the fixings? The working at height??? This isn't a hobby of mine.

All I said was in Northern Ireland we wouldn't get that sort of money. But justifying it by saying working at a height. That does make me laugh. They way I see it is we electricians are used to working at heights it's part and parcel of the job

Fine if you were doing on the way to/from a job, with the right kit. What about time assesing job, other work missed, delayed......... and all the things Kiers has just beaten me to.

Sorry Hawk I wasn't being arsey! So take away the working at height... All being said, and like in my first post, the ladders will be at a steep angle, and to be completely safe, a tower should be used. AND it's not just for a blokes house, it's a business, in one of the leafier parts of Manchester. £100 is a steal. I put a telephone extension in the other day, £50. BT want £175 plus for 30 mins work. Go figure!
Anyhow, I'm working at one of the directors houses later in the week, see what he says then. I might not do it just for the hell of it.

I had a similar thing with an Asian shopkeeper.I gave him the price before starting the job & he said it was too much, so I told him to do it himself as I wasn't prepared to work for any less. The cheeky so-an-so asked if he could borrow my ladders & tools !!!

Sure he can rent your tools out at a suitable cost! He can pay your consultancy fee when you give him a risk assessment and safe system of work (instructions) !
