You can just run Ubuntu as a live CD without doing the installation, that way you can check hardware compatibility etc.
I prefer debian to ubuntu. Because I really like the package manager apt-get.
Plus steam os is bassed off debian so soon there will be a lot of games on there.

Cheers Marv, I'm trying to install it off one of my HDDs, which might be the problem.
I think I need to get a blank CD.
Turn off auto updates for gods sake.
You want to update drivers first and other things after. (If you have corupted it the windows disk can do a repair install)
Ubuntu is a Debian based Linux Distro so the apt-get package runs with Ubuntu as well. Link https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AptGet/Howto
Fair enough.
For old computer dsm or damn small linux is a good one to use as it only needs 512mb or something tiny for os

DSM is very handy, I use it on a flashdrive so I do secure internet banking overseas or even at suppliers premises/ anywhere away from the office.
You could try a repo manager like Keryx potrable.

I have the album. I think I have all of them and remember buying them in record shops when they were first released.
Remember "Records" and "Record Shops"??
Records were black plastic discs a bit like a CD but were black plastic, 7" diameter and some were 12" diameter and music - REAL music - was recorded on them.
Record Shops were places you went to on a Saturday morning to jostle the crowds of totty who were there to buy the latest records.
Next on the list was the Wimpy Bar to jostle more totty and drink Coke or coffee, eat burgers and feed shillings into the Juke Box.
Cd's are boring compared to old LP's Ep's, 45's and (Geordie will know about these.... 78's :dita: )
