Hi all
I am checking out a faulty fire/intruder alarm panel, it is an Eagle AFB180N, and I enclose a picture of the frontage.
This is quite an elderly metal clad unit, which looks very sturdy.
Apparently a tenant, when the landlord was away, was fed up with the alarm going off, and...

Just wondered what your opinions where to a "touch switch" light switch in zone 2, like the photo attached.
It's a flat glass plate with no mechanical switch as such. You just touch the front plate. I can't see an IP rating on the tech spec, but does this mean its unsafe? Just not sure what...
Hi folks, Need to test someone's brain, I feel. I've been asked today to test and certificate a new mobile library vehicle.
I don't know too much about the job yet as I've not seen it, but have been told that it involves 230v for supplying socket outlets for pc's and will incorporate a...
Hi, I don't have my full regs to hand and I can't find it in any of my onsite guides. I know cable buried in a wall can't be less than 150mm from the corner join of 2 walls but is there a minimum for cable in surface mounted pvc conduit? I have a ring main I need to get to the first floor...
Are there any regs preventing the connection of a single socket to power a gas hob ignition circuit with a 3 amp fused plug to a cooker outlet suppling an single oven. I don't want the moulded plug removed or spur off the ring mains because the outlet is close by and accessable.
I need some drawing software to pull me out of a hole until I get autocad reinstalled onto my PC. Need to be able to do scale equipment layout plans and elevations.
Anyone know of anything free or cheapish that would do the job.
Hi, I am totally new to this forum, based in London, having some electrical qualifications I am mostly dealing with general building maintenance and not very often come across some electrical stuff, but now it's the moment. Basically I have 3 radiator switches to be replaced, the job seemed to...

We keep freely giving out advice and knowledge when OPs, who are obviously not competent, post for help on basic stuff:
1) Do extra sockets I install have to have RCD protection?
2) Why am I getting high r2 readings on a ring?
3) Why has my extractor fan stopped working?
4) Help me...
Looking for a 2 gang light switch that has a 2 way switch and an intermediate on it, black nickel.
Mind has shut down, can't find anything on the tinternet, but admitting, I can't recall ever hearing of one :confused5: ...

Hello,
Just need a bit of advise, I am a qualified apprentice served electrician, after a friend has just asked me to look at wiring in and altering some new lights within his bathroom, the work would of been easy enough to do but I informed them that the work was notifiable and that I was not...

I've installed a basic chatroom. It's accessible via the arms (pub) and also by clicking Chatbox Full in the main blue menu (under the orange menu). I'm still testing it, so if it breaks something else it will have to go. No tears if that's the case please.
You need 30+ posts to use it. No...
Hi Chaps,
I've been working as a mate/labourer with my dad (spark) since I was 15. I'm now 21 and need to get my qualifications. College was out of the question this year, due to up front financial requirements, so I looked around a bit and stumbled across ATL Practical Training.
I know...

Good evening all,
Anyone used any of this yet?
Reason I ask is that it's on offer at the minute, 2.5mm 100M for £47.
Apparently it's made by Prysmian so should be OK would you think?

Was at a property today, haven't finished the test there yet but they have a 9kw shower being fed with 6mm. Run of 2-3 metres into the isolator in mt4 and then chased another 2 metres behind tiles to...

I am installing a 6mm T&E circuit on a 32amp MCB (on an RCD protected board) for a 3.5kw Bosch oven. The 6mm is going to a 40amp dp isolator. The oven has a factory installed plugless prewired cable. How do I ensure that the oven cable has adequate protection?
By this I mean that...
I have been asked to wire up 50 door switches (similar to Door Switch Surface - Push to Break - 2 Amp - White)
The problem is as these are to be mounted just under the top of the door (to operate) the terminals will be within reach and wont meet IPX4 requirements - any ideas?
I can seem to find...
Forgive me but I can't search existing threads as the app just crashes each time. I'm looking at fluke mft's and would like to know which is best, why and of any issues. I did have one years ago but it did give some odd readings now and then and don't really want that again.
Those who can't...
Going shopping tomorow. Thinking of buying above.

Thanks in advance
