Hi
a friend ordered some 12v led lamps to replace his conventional 12v halogen lamps
now obviously the new lamps are not causing enough load for the transformers to kick in
can i simply change the transformers to a led driver thats rated at a low wattage?

Called out today by new owners to a domestic 3 bed semi with history of nuisance RCD tripping from day 1 (lived there about a month). TNS. No dual supply. No regular pattern to tripping. Most appliances new.
First - Ramp Tested RCD unit with no loads = 25mA (can live with that). Popped...
Hi folks, i have a 16 way British General CU which was configured as split load.
I'm converting to all RCBOs which is fine apart from one small detail, i don't have a single neutral bar long enough.
The earth bar is fine - plenty of ways for CPC doubled with RCBO functional earth.
The neutral...
Hi all. First time poster here with a hell of a lot less hair than I had 3 weeks ago now! so please be nice, I'll try and explain best I can. I am not a sparky but have some idea of electrics. I also own a multimeter.
Short version. 100A, 30mA RCD trips INTERMITTENTLY on WYLEX 8 fuse board...

Short version: When there is a high load on the power grid in general, does it make it more likely that my fuse will blow?
Full version: I'm renting an apartment in Rome, where we are currently experiencing a heat wave. When running the air conditioning unit on max, the circuit breaker will...
Hi,
Been to a job with a 2core swa supplying the garage.. The swa has been glanded inside house to CU. But the other end in the Garage has had the swa run in plastic conduit with no gland on the swa so unable to test r1/r2.
However the garage has its own earth rod. So technically the swa is...

been helping out at a local industrial unit today and something got me thinking. There was an old 3 phase isolation switch that was still live from 3 phase DB2 however there was no load from the switch. The owner wants some power sockets and lighting on the upstairs mezzanine area so the 3...
A friend of a Friend asked me to go and look at a Shower that didn't work, sure enough it didn't, I took the switch off, and the connections were, to say the least a bit iffy, cores cut out, tried my best to find out who did it and after some detective work he came clean and admitted it was him...
Hello.
So I've learned a lot about dimmers on this last job. The customer wanted everything downstairs on dimmers and boy has it been a learning curve.
I've split a lighting circuit and the customer has asked for 2 x st64 led bulbs on pendants to be put on a dimmer. The problem is they're...
Hi, ive been asked to carry out Load testing on a whole shop to see if the existing supply cable can take more load, now I'm familiar with working out loadings with the on site guide, but the conversation I had led me to believe this can be measured with a clamp meter, surely this way is not...
I need 1 100A MCCB and 1 switch disconnector that is obsolete, has anybody found an equivalent?
They are both wont switch at all.
I'll contact Dorman tomorrow but though I'd chance my look here.
Hi All and thanks to those who take the time to reply.
My concern is the amount of current the building could pull in use. I will try and give some salient facts.
160 flats over 8 floors. The landlords areas per floor consist of 20 x 20W led lights and several occasional cleaners sockets hence...
Hi All, This is a bit niche but i've been asked to refurb an antique lamp to dimmable led and i'm after a very tiny cable that will take 230v but only run a single 4W LED. There are 5 of these on the lamp that come back to a connector then off in 0.75 flex.
Also after an inline dimmer for the...
Hi Guys
I know showers have been extensively covered on here, but this this is a slightly different question.
went to a job to replace 45amp shower switch, I noticed cable was damaged by heat, first thought maybe loose connection, so I started investigating, I noticed a 9.5kw shower on 6.00mm...
Hello. New to this forum stuff so hopefully this makes sense. I've recently installed a 10mm 3core cable (H07FN-R) to power a 12kw electric boiler. On full power the boiler is drawing 46Amps. I'm a bit concerned as the cable is omitting a slight heat when drawing this load, was just wondering if...
