Why isn't there any?

If you're using only the plus-negative on the battery and the only grounding point is battery negative to chassis, then surely a 12v rcd would be possible.

Or am I missing something totally here.
I've scoured the internet and found absolutely nothing!

What would be the point of it?
Well the other day I was looking at a van where the back light had a bad connection to the bulb, and instead of melting the fuse it had started burning through the wire instead. The 3amp blade fuse showed no sign of any problem.

My thoughts were that if something like an Rcd could monitor what was going out and coming back in then it could trip to indicate a problem.

Lots of cars have monitoring of circuits via an ecu and will shut down if a fault is detected.

But an RCD wouldn't detect anything wrong or trip in that situation.

You haven't got the concept of line, neutral and protective earth in a 12VDC system.

My mate in China just sent me a selection of these. I'm testing them out over the next few days. I'm pretty convinced things can be tidied up and a consumer unit made to house them neatly!

They're just circuit breakers aren't they? There's loads of options for circuit breakers for automotive wiring, but that's completely different to an RCD!

You can get pre built panels of circuit breakers too.
