Try to get your hands on previous exam papers,& practice with those. Remember this is a closed book exam so be fully prepared & make full use of the time whilst in the exam.

Good luck

Yes know and understand the subject ie know what you are testing and why you are doing it. Do not learn GN3 and past papers [They will help] like a parrot and then expect to pass because as sure as god made little green apples they will throw a curve ball at you. I work daily with guys who have 2391 but got through learning it like a parrot and off past papers yes one could argue that they passed 2391 but could not test any better than my granny and she is dead. Example today had a debate with another tester testing a 2 way circuit he did not test the strappers on the IR test His answer was he did not know he had to and does not feel the need to as it is a waste of time!!! he is 2391 qualified.

I am taking my 2391 in Januaty after 21 years sparking and I was witnessing some testing a contractor was doing on a new LV Switchboard at the hospital were I work .He was recording .88 ohms ZE and 667KA PFC on the panel which is about 5 metres from a brand new 2 MVA transformer and he didn't even seem concerned until I questioned whether his tester was functioning correctly and told him what readings he needed to comply and he has his 2391. After retesting with my tester we had 0.01 ZE and 44KA PFC and he wasn't even that bothered just blamed his equipment.

I passed the 2391 exam in July and all I will say is that the past papers were no help whatsoever a couple of 3 mark questions come up but the rest was unheard of.

You need a good amount of underpinning knowledge for the exam. - Another place you can look for some questions with the answers is on the C & G website with there feedback reports.

Make sure you call everything buy its official title - ie - Insulation resistance tester not meggar. And probably remember the safe isolation procedure and earth fault path diagrams (although this didn't come up in mine).

I think it was asking for a diagram of how to perform safe isolation on a 3 phase system (so had to draw out the 12 combinations). Just read the questions carefully.

Think its about a 44% pass rate.

That is all I remember.
