Got pushed in to wiring a electric gate motor system looks fairly easy on paper, my question is what cable do I use to the sensors, motor, etc it does say it is a 24v system cheers.

for the motors, calculate your cable size according to the motor wattage and 24V. sensors are generally low current. manufacturers instructions are your best bet.

The last one we did, we used SWA to either side of the gate post into a terminal box and then flex to the motors (which where mounted on the gate).

Thats jogged my memory, we used 7 core 2.5mm2 SWA multicore from the main building for the supply, they also wanted a light and gate opener switched from inside the office. We also used a piece of this for the far gate motor and photocells.

Hopefully heres a link for a DC 24 volt calculator, it gives the result in a green box which might help you decide the CSA of the cables.

Hi throw in a 4 x2.5 q SWA for motors, just use 2 cores foe the 24 volt motors, you will have 2 spare but these will come in handy if the customer ever changes to 220 volt motors. For the sensor just us 6 core alarm cable or cat 5 e cable in flexible conduit.
