I just replaced a 3-way switch. I am 99.9% sure I wired it the same as the existing switch. Now, when this switch is in the down position the other switch works properly. When the other switch is in the up position the new switch works properly. In any other position nothing works. I connected the black (hot) wire to the common terminal. The white wire is connected on the same side of the switch and the red wire is connected to the other side of the switch. This is how it was connected in the old switch. Any help is appreciated.

Are you certain black was actually the hot. Just reconnect it in a different way and see what happens. The black screw should be common, try connecting the white to common and the red and black to either of the other two.

I did what you suggested and it worked! I always assumed black had to be hot. Thanks so much for your help!
