Thought id ask on here my brother is looking into training to be a electrican and went to ableskills in dartford for a look around he is set on the idea of doing the complete electricans course which includes

City and guilds 2330 lv 2
City and guilds 2330 lv 3
2377 pat testing
17th edition
City and guilds 2391

Apparently course is 16 weeks for 5 days a week and is £6400

I personally dont think it can be done in that time but hes set so would just like to hear opinions of if anyone has heard of them might help me save him his money!

well for a start the 2391 is no longer, its been replaced by two qualifications, which have different aims. I tghink that the 2330 has/or is about to finish.
Ask your brother this, when he finishes his "training" will he be competenmt to go around and carry out quality installation and testing?

In all honesty, get him to get a job as an electicians mate/labourer and get to night school. He could spend his £6400 on some decent tools, and more than a few nights out!

I've been at it 45 years and I don't feel like a "complete electrician".
I still seem to learn something new most days.

At least 16 weeks is a step up from 5 weeks.

Not sure why he would want to do the PATesting tho'

If he's got the money to pay for it, why not?
A lot of the stuff you learn in college you dont use in the real world. There is nothing like hands on experience. But get all the tech out of the way, and then he can start the real learning. I done my 2330 level 2, PAT testing, Part P and 17th edition at able skills, 10 weeks training and that was more than enough time. I got distictions in every exam.
He will only be an impover until he gets his NVQ3, but that is where the real learning is done, on the tools. I'm 2 years down the line now, in full time employment and I've learned a lot. But I'm only just doing level 3 now. Because I can only afford to pay for it now.
But to be honest, that 2 years working was worth it's weight in gold.
