Approved Electrician - but been off the tools 10yrs

Hi All,

I was an approved electrician before I decided to get into the oil game - in a non-electrical role.

I am more than likely going to be made redundant in the next month unless oil price goes back up and COVID-19 miraculously disappears.

I’ve been away from being an electrician 10 years and I would like to get back into it. Has anyone got any advice about how to go about it?

get the 18th regs. course/exam under your belt . if you want to get a JIB card, they do a mature candidate scheme to grade you.

If approved, you’ll still have an SJIB card?
Local college will do the 18th course regularly.... or they would if it wasn’t for Covid.

Nothing really stopping you applying for a job if you explain the situation or starting SE if that’s what you want.

My card expired in 2015. I have applied for quite a few jobs but due to the fact I’ve been out of the game for 10 years nobody will go near me.

Sign up for agency work,and say nothing other than your an experienced Electrician.
