Paul, how many of the trainees are active members? As in log in regular, I understand lots not wishing to post etc but would be good to know that they are still around.

As a qualified trainer it would be interesting to have a look in there as I don’t know what the standards are like. I assume its mainly domestic biased or are there any industrial maintenance lads?

You all know my thoughts on short courses, therefore I’ve avoided it.

There's a couple of short course people in there mate but most of them are doing it properly.
The standard is pretty good although obviously it's a big mix of brand new starters all the way to people that are due to qualify.
I think you'd like it and be a hell of an asset to it.

T/S = the Trainee Section. Some of us over the years (Mentors) have got this section together and kept it running (God knows how lol) and we have people that are in college, learning centers (dont start lol) that ask questions in there away from the normal "free for all" attacking general forum. It is a safe haven for them to ask what they want without getting a grilling.

The Mentors over this past year have help over a dozen Trainees pass exams, some even get the Trainees on site for some hands on experience (with pay..... dont tell the tax man). Just trying to show the way to the new lads.

Cheers Paul, good Idea

Tony, the T/S is for people just starting out in electrical education, grass roots stuff going up to the Level 3 and I&T exams. From there we class them as no longer a "Trainee" and they move onto asking questions in the main forum. By that time they know how the forum works, how to post, how to ask questions, where to look for info. Whilst a Trainee their members badge state their level so general forum members give them a bit of slack when asking questions in the main forums. Seems to be working so far.

As for industrial questions they only tend to come up when the end of year Level 3 exam is coming up, you would be a massive help on the formula questions that need a precise answer but those get asked in the general area anyway. Mainly domestic in the T/S mate.

We tend to try and explain things in a jovial way, explain things in a way that people can understand and not the City & Guilds "talk" that can be difficult to understand unless you have a masters in English. We/they post up real world installs/problems and walk them through what is needed to be done or tell them why it needs to be installed in that certain way.

Lot of trainees ask for on site experience, I've taken 5 so far on my sites. It i becoming a nice little friendly bunch of members, its like the trainees have their own little Arms to post up in.
