No doubt this might sound a bit ---- to some but I think its a fair question: Back boxes - I as I'm sure most people have built up quite a collection over the years. When you look at them there seems to always be a pattern that the M3.5mm adjustment lug is on the opposite side of the box to the earth lug. When you look in a back box then to me common sense dictates that the makers "stamp" in the base of the box be visible and the right way up to read when installed. If I do this with the Appleby I'm looking at then the adjuster will be on the left and the earth lug top right. A GET PLC one I have puts the adjuster on the right and earth lug top left. Also I like to have the earth symbol "the right way up". I always prefer my earth fly leads to be in the BOTTOM corner . I figure that even if left totally loose over time it would have a natural tendency to gravitate down and you would get some "earthing" at least. If in one of the top corners and loose I have this irrational fear that it could "fall" out. Yes I know we're dealing with solid core wire for the most part but still........ Is there any standard or protocol for this? I'd just like them all to be the same" A bit OTT on the thinking maybe?

It's Friday night my friend, grab a beer, and stop worrying.

There is no right or wrong way

However if you rotate the adjustable lug so it's usable, so that you can use it. In this wY the earth screw is at the bottom of the box which makes it easier to fit.

But if you want to put a socket 400mm (to match existing) centres and try to push the earth link up into the terminal. The choice is yours.

Excuse me while I grab a beer
