Hi guys iv got a bathroom fan heater to fit at my grans house to replace an existing fan heater which has broken down the circuit isnt rcd protected but has a fused spur to supply the fan which will be in zone 3 would this installation of the fan heater be notifiable works under part p as its in the bathroom even though its just changeing the fan heater like for like and not altering the wiring or installation

no zone 3 anymore. under the 17th, all bathroom circuits require RCD, but in your case, i'd advise changing the FCU for a RCD FCU.

Tanks for the reply i didnt think of the rcd spur units would those be ok inside the bathroom or do they have to be located outside the bathroom

The rcd Fused spur would have to be outside of the bathroom, and only work that is within the zones in a bath/shower room is notifiable (i.e zone 0,1 or 2).

I think im just gonna change the fan heater unit itself n not alter any spurs or wiring thanks for all your help guys

I was always under the impression that if its for like fore like basis you can carry out the works and recommend on next major works that it be altered, because time of installation it may of met the regulations and we can't go around retrospectively applying regs?

Just out of interest HHD, explain why the switch would have to be outside the bathroom, and not simply outside the zones.

i's question whether the RCD FCU was able to withstand the steamy/damp atmosphere without detriment. i.e. is it suitable for the enviromnent?

all tina turner's bits are good, albeit a bit saggy these days.

I have no trouble installing a RCD protected socket outlet in a bathroom if located sensibly, same goes for a RCD-FCU. But then i don't go into an uncontrolled panic whenever a bathroom is mentioned!! Steam shouldn't be a problem, all bathrooms/shower rooms nowadays should be provided with a suitable sized extract fan....

Nothing wrong with a SFCU in a bathroom, provided it's outside zones. If you're that worried about steam getting inside, then you wouldn't have a fan heater in that position to begin with...

Like for like, just change it as long as it complied at the time of original install. If in doubt, RCD spur or RCBO at the board.
