best wood bits??

If you want to drill deep holes fast, you can't beat an Auger bit .... both Bahco and Irwin are decent, if pricey. If the material is only thin, you'll get a better result with a flat bit ...... If you want a good finish where the hole would be seen, try a forstner bit which will produce the cleanest hole.

I've used 100's if not 1000's of auger bit over the years doing site work timber frames..
ive just bought the red armeg and have been very disapointed. I'll be using augers again next time

Armeg 'Wood Beaver' Bits are brilliant. Only available as a hex fitment but can be used with an 18V Cordless with no power loss.

Other brands are available, under the general term of 'Flute Auger'.

Sorry. I'm regretting ever buying the wood beaver bits.... Bloody useless,
the shafts bend, the go blunt quickly and are a load of carp... Won't be buying anymore

Ive had a problem with a bent shaft, probably due to my own brute ignorance using it, but other than that have found them great to use. Had them a good few years and they just keep going and going ...... dont seem to have any issue with then blunting!

Still using a set of cheap flat bits .

resharpen them with an angle grinder .

had them for ages and still going strong ...

I have the DeWalt wood bits that come in the tough case a bit pricey @ 18 quid for only 8 of them but they Last a long time!!.

been spending the last 4 weeks cutting out 250x80mm sections of 45-60mm thick plaster in the ceiling every 600mm to expose the troffs for Cable routes which just destroys anything I used to make pilot holes for a recip saw lol even the recip blades end up with no teeth left after like 5 cuts, Augers & Spades barely last a day but I used one of the DeWalt Spades & it lasted a few days before it went from 20mm to like 10mm

The £12 set I got were the black dewalt set.

They have lasted me quite a while to be fair, ill need to stock up at some point as 16,20 and 25 have disappeared

There worse than scousers cause I have to bloody work with them so often.

I tend to work with brumies so dont come into contact with scousers very often

nope for me my Augers didn't last very long before the drill bit on them buckled after a couple of hours when putting pilot holes through 45-55mm thick plaster.
