I have a set of the armeg also. They are beastly. But expensive.
A tickle on a bench grinder sorts them out, or even on an angle grinder.

Those armeg "nail proof" one are not nailproof maybe if you hit a pin or tiny nail but hit a nail that a nailgun shot in will blunt it
agree. I stick to the red on new builds or spades at £1.20 a go if old. Those armeg "nail proof" one are not nailproof maybe if you hit a pin or tiny nail but hit a nail that a nailgun shot in will blunt it
impossible lolArmeg do a wood beaver thats nail proof, its blue, and works well although I have yet to test its kryptonite abilities.
I also have a bosch flat bit that is slightly (deliberately) twisted, and is also painted blue and its brilliant.
neither were cheap. Aside from that I am with Mike (or is it Mark) - I just buy a 229 piece set from Wickes, etc for 20 snots and chuck them away when knacked up
Def going to try the armeg ones, will let you know how we get on!
Well, they are touted as "nail proof".
I quote:

to me, nail proof infers....they are nail proof
Rollocks, I have never seen a bit which will not blunt after hitting a nail, that is false advertising, even the very best bits will end up blunt afterwards, the good bits can be restored by sharpening them again but no bit is nail proof, impossible if a wood bit, definately could be if made for metal drilling though.Yes, the black WoodBeaver drill bits are definitely sold as being Nail Proof. I would be happy to put you in touch with a very knowledgeable Armeg rep if you are having problems with them?
ogre bits are deadly!I always use Milwaukee ogre bits, they go through joists in seconds and they are pretty tough against impact! You just have to put your drill on Gear 1 and they glide through. Armegs ogre bits are pretty good too! Milwaukee bits are only about £21 for 4, well worth the money I normally buy a new set every couple of months as I end up losing them or eventually they get blunt but they definitely earn their money first!
Ive got to say it a 20mm wood bit is the answer lol. No seriously I agree with MDJ the cheapest as you will surely hit something,
Are the irwin blue bits the flat spade style or augers?
I've used 100's if not 1000's of auger bit over the years doing site work timber frames..
ive just bought the red armeg and have been very disapointed. I'll be using augers again next time
Do you go to Stoneleigh, May bank holidays?
