Discuss C.K Tools OR Knipex OR NWS in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

All three are capable and up to the designed task, although price does seperate them, somewhat.

If i was diving the Marianas trench,or goint to Mars, and could only take one set......it would be Knipex.

Out of all 3 , I do prefer the rubbery grips on NWS gear

I find the harder CK / Knipex handles a bit slippy if your hands are a bit greasy

I have always fancied trying Kleins but just can't justify the new retail price, but I'm always on the look out for a cheap set on Ebay

knipex for the red/blue/yellow insulated crimp tool cost £65but narrow jaws so you do 1 end at a time. adjustable pressure so that you can do the awkward yellow oned on 6mm in 2 stages.

...Now we've opened up the debate,i can vouch for Klein and Bahco, but i have some older Gedore insulated stuff, and it's still mint.

To be fair,i have a pair of Elliot Lucas pliers,a mate of me dad gave me,when i was 8 ? grey,plastic handles,and i'm glad they can't speak ?

Elliot Lucas, now there's a blast from the past. They were real engineering tool manufacturers. In the name of progress they were bought up.
James Neill was a tool making conglomerate, based in Sheffield, which included not only Britool but Eclipse, M&W, P S Stubbs and Elliott Lucas.
James Neill is now part of Spear and Jackson.
Britool were sold to Facom in 1991.

You've chosen 3 good brands. I've tried them all and liked them all. I don't remember any real difference. I tend to use CK, although I don't know why. I've probably just been brain washed somewhere along the way.

I bought a pair of NWS cutters a few years back and don't rate them other than as very poor quality they are ready for the bin when unbranded cutters I have had for 5 - 10 years are still doing the job

in that case I wonder if Nws has cheapened down their products in recent years

I have an old pair of nws high leverage cutters I brought about 15 years back and have used them to cut everything from cable to steel capping and they are still fine

I like the draper expert ergo's and Knipex installation pliers and Bacho too they are a all great cutters! I used to love CK cutters a few years back but the cutting edge just doesn't seem to last as well as it used to. I couldn't get on with the NWS cutters at all! what I don't understand is why they put the stripping notches in the back of the side cutters where I would usually cut cable as that is the point with the most achievable force!

the combicutters with the little notches I really liked the idea of and bought a pair for £30 off Amazon but like you say the position of the notches is poorly thought out , being at the back edge of the cutters. If it were at the front it would be much better.
not sure about the modern c.k brand , my dads old high leverage side cutters are brilliant they cut a 4mm box screw like a knife through butter. He uses this type for pretty much his entire career on the tools

Yeah those are the sort @Dustydazzler
I like the idea of them just not at the back of the cutters, the draper ergo's are well thought out and don't have the notches at the back so I'm on them now! I do have a pair of Knipex side cutters with no notches that I have had for about 5 years and are still as good as when I bought them just a lot looser, the older stuff was much better quality steel imho!
