Mentor GMES (Glen) has sweet talked his local wholesaler to donate a prize for you guys! Cheers Glen, great idea. The prize for the correct randomly picked answer is this:-

Megger VF2 Voltage Detector Stick for Finding AC Voltage

A Megger VF2 AC Voltage detector/pen!!! Nice prize and very useful to any electrician at any level of their development.


Question:- As per the Health & Safety Executive document GS38, 4 items are needed to carry out safe isolation procedure to enable you to work on a circuit. Please name all 4 pieces of equipment.

(The first two answers have two correct answers each, any of the two will do)


Do not post up your answer, please PM it to me and the winner will be announced Friday 22nd August at 08:00pm. The prize will be posted out to the winner free of charge, I'll foot the bill lol. Good luck and have fun with it.

Saw a bloke a while back in an indian restaurant using a bit of flex with a lampholder. I asked him about it and he was adamant that it was no different from a voltage tester.
NB trainees, the above will not win you the prize!

Well done Paul M and Glenn(GMES) fantastic guys, I will add to the prize, I have a second hand in fairly decent condition BS7671 green version regs book which has amendment 1 in it and is the 2008 version which I will gladly post to Paul M if he pms me an addy to send it to, to add to the prize. Okay it isn't the latest with 3 amendments in it but still up to date.

I also have a on site guide and a NICEIC snags and solutions regarding earthing and bonding, thinking about it, I can send them all and Paul M could add them as a prize in a different comp so I don't stand on Glenns gorilla feet :grin:

No Treading taken Mike I have all the time in the world for Lads that are willing to enter the Industry the correct way, and I will get into the wholesalers ribs again and see if we can get anything else for the Trainee's.

a glen is something for the sweaty socks to make up a song.like roaming through the glen ( for roaming, substitute raping and pillaging )

The snags and solution books are good, I've got a few of them, might have to put one up for the next prize? Let me read it first lol.

What do the trainees need when starting out????? Books are not cheap, hand tools will always be useful, multi-meter (cheap version) is a bonus. I'll try and get a CK set of screwdrivers for another competition.

the gloaming is a sweaty socks word for p***ed on single malt. after a bottle or 2, you're gloaming.

Not posting up who or how well he has doe but "we've got one" so far. Wrong time of year, people are finishing their exams or just starting.

Same as any other question thread, no-one will take the Mick out of you, only me see's your answers. There will be loads of correct answers and the winners will be picked out by random by another Mentor/Mod/Admin without him knowing who the Trainee is. The Trainees that get the question correct will be allocated a number, a Mentor/Mod or Admin will pick a number/s and the winner/s will be chosen. I will do a screen shot before this time and post it up after the number has been chosen, hope that is clear????? I know what I'm on about, it will work and it is fair for all Trainees.

Get your answers in lads :wink:

Hope so, it was a 60 hour week last week and this one is going the same way so far! Finished at 9pm tonight!!! Taking the weekend off, no call outs, having a beer or six Friday so I could do with a laugh.

PS Mods & Admin, give me a 12 hour ban (aka sleep it off ban) if I get a bit too much pmsl :rofl: I might slip back into "my old ways" after a few lol :wink:

Assign each entry a number, then use this...
RANDOM.ORG - Integer Generator
to pick the winner.

it was the bit in green that made me think it was the first 2 correct answers will win, but i think i may just have misunderstood, i thought it ment the first 2 answers with at least 2 of the correct answers will win
