Hi,

What size and type of conduit would you use in a shop basement for a lighting and a socket outlet circuit. Both would be surface mount. Thanks.

Nick

20mm PVC conduit will be fine.

However if you use conduit, then you will only be able to use singles as normal t&e wont fit easily.

Could I not use larger conduit and still use T&E?

You could use 25mm conduit, but it would still be reasonably hard going.

Personally it would be singles for me, as i would rather an easy job and a bit more cost on materials than struggling all day with T&E.

Up to you.:)

Its not really a case of how many, (although that does play an obvious part) but its what you are using them for (power and/or lighting etc) as the current carrying capacity of the cables will change due to lading and grouping.

If feasible Then I would probably look at running 2x2 plastic trunking around the room, then either conduit or trunking drops off that. The scope for any additional sockets, light switches etc is then unlimited providing you stay within the circuit limitations.

Only if you want this guy as your bezzie mate!!!!:D

Hi Jason,

How many singles can you run down 20mm conduit? Thanks.

Nick

Look in Appendix 5 on the OSG it tells you Cable factors and the |Maximum for condit sizes. (P119,120) note the maximum bends. this is the maximum before an access point such as a Junction box or Inspection Bend.

Theres plenty of room in a 20mm for 6x 2.5mm's and 4 1.5mm's!!!

All depends on how many bends there are and how long the run is between access.
