Are there specific rules regarding plastic and metal consumer units? Are you allowed to install a plastic consumer unit to IP2X in a shed or does it have to be metal?

Any advice on this anyone?

The equipment that you install should be suitable for its location.

So, providing there is a roof on it, then i dont see a problem.

Hey.

What kind of shed?? wood, metal, plastic is it a small garden shed??. Only asking because condensation may be an issue and with a poor ingress rating it may not suit.

Thank you for the replies everyone. The shed is made from wood but completely dry and insulated. The consumer unit is not likely to be damaged as this shed is hardly ever used.

Dependant on what you want the power supply for (maybe some sockets and a light?) I would just use a small Insulated IP rated 2 way board. Several manufacturers supply these and are ideal for this application.

Volex 2-Way Fully Insulated RCD Board Consumer Unit - NoLinkingToThis, Where the Trade Buys

Fitted loads of those Volex ones in a kennels i rewired a few years ago.

They were installed outside but under cover.

Did a PIR there recently and out of 30, only 1 failed the rcd test.

And no, i dont work for them:D
