Hi, Just been to a house that needs the Consumer Unit moving from outside in the garage to inside the Kitchen - the client would like the CU to be installed in a built in large cupboard, which is also probably the best place for access etc. Are ther rules that apply to existing installations with regard to locations of consumer units?

If the intake needs relocating, then many DNO's will not install meters in kitchens or bedrooms.

If its just the cu, then what about the hallway?

Theres always a chance that the caseing or cables could be damaged by pots and pans in the cupboard. I have sub contracted to a few kitchen install companines and none would allow the unit in the cupboards for these reasons.

Theres also an access issue aswell, there not the eaisiest of places to work in.

James :)

can you clarify DNO please. I am assuming it is the local power board in some shape but I am not familiar with this acronym.

Thx in advance
