I may be behind the times, but I read Edd’s OP!

I read Edd's OP but for clarity left out the None-CT feeds to the meter as I thought that was a given...bad call on my part...one of the perils of trying to post here, do other stuff and answer the phone all at the same time I suppose...should have gave it a little bit more thought..

I tried a long time back to use Br, Blk, Gy and Bl. You can't see them on screen.

I use the old colours for clarity so fools like you can follow them.

I agree Tony - Why we ever bowed to the EU directive to change our colours (the best in the world) I will never understand! I have often wondered if injuries or worse have resulted in that crazy decision!

Actually the reality is that it had nothing to do with the EU at all. They draughted an agreement back at the start of the 1970's for cable colour harmonisation across MAINLAND Europe to avoid some serious issues they had seen in the 1960's. Germany used to use the same colours as us and they experienced some very serious problems after they changed in the 1970's.

The UK was never an original signatory of this agreement because all our electrical systems are separated from the rest of Europe, sadly the ECA, NICEIC and BASEC all agreed that the UK should do this harmonisation as it would "bring us in line with Europe", the 28% saving on cable manufacturer costs clearly had nothing to do with it.

It was British mugs who forced the change, not Europe. Germany's equivalent of the ECA and the TUV organisation advised against the change in the UK on safety grounds.

You can't always make the new tonal colours out on site either, when encountered with less than perfect lighting conditions!! They tend to morph into shades of grey!! lol!!
