Dewalt DC945 Drill Driver

Hi can anyone help answer a question. I have a Dewalt DC945 drill driver and I have just been playing around with it as a screwdriver.

In second and third gear I can use the Torque selecter ring upto about 18 and hold the drill head with my hand making it stop turning (I think this is the ratchet feature). It just clicks.

However in first gear the drill is too powerful to stop even with the torque ring on 1.

Is this a fault or is the first gear too high torqued to be stopped by hand??

It is the XRP version if this matters!!

I've got a 925 version. It's exactly the same. It's a pain as I prefer the lower speed of setting 1 when screwing (ahem).

Cheers for that, was worried I had a fault with mine.

Just got this email from Dewalt this morning:

Many thanks for your email. It does not appear that you have a fault with your DC945. The gears work as detailed below:​

Gear:​

3 - low torque, high speed - suitable for screws​

2 - low torque, high speed - suitable for bigger screws​

1 - high torque, low speed - suitable for drilling

So it's third gear for screwdriving?? I always assumed it would be first. But hey ho at least theres no problem!!
