Is there any point doing the part P, fundamentinspect and test and 18th, if you want to be a domestic installer? Or is there a better route?

Don’t know your age, but if possible a full apprenticeship would be the best route.

I did the C&G Initial Inspection & Testing course a few years back, on my return to the industry. Restricted myself to domestic work.

You’ll need to join a Scheme, to make domestic work finically viable, so therefore you’ll need the latest amendment of BS7671, currently the 18th. Don’t waste your money on the C&G equivalent Part P course, just get the Guide to Part P, and read for yourself.

What is your business aspiration?

Edit, also what experience do you have?

Hi thanks the reply’s, well just completed the fundamentals, hope will pass the 18th tues.

im 42 so apprenticeship my be a little belittling , plus don’t think I can handle 16 plus scroats.

im a carpenter by trade, but have a good mixed knowledge, including electrics! But no hard evidence as in work I’ve completed and been verified for the last 2 years so a bit stuck!

You will need an MFT. Insurance PL. Complaints policy H&S policy, Certificates C&G level 3. Lockout kit, an example of your work to inspect.
If you look at the link above it will tell you exactly what you must have to enter a scheme.

Bit of a sweeping statement on ‘apprenticeships’! Quite a few of us on here well over the age of a young whippersnapper 42 that would have loved to be taken on as an apprentice. I’m picking things up as I go along on the domestic side and ticking over but would love to have a mentor to get stuck into more juicy stuff.

Didn’t mean to offend anyone, and no I agree maybe a little harsh on the label!! Just trying to get into the industry and be a competent domestic installer.
Any preference to Megger or Fluke??

I've got the fluke 1664fc and very pleased with it. The auto test function is time saving and worth having.
