Hi chaps,

Fitting the above to an existing dwelling and they have electric gates installed.

Now, the door controller will operate the gate, however, the controller outputs 12V via 1 pair and the gate PCB operates from a no volt signal from 1 pair.

Upon speaking to the teccies at Bell, they said i needed to install an 8-9 relay, which would drop the 12V down to 0V.

Had a a quick score of the net and cant seem to find one.

Anyone have any ideas??

Ta V much. :)

I guess they mean use the 12v from the door entry to energise a relay and connect the no volt signal across the N/O contacts on the relay?

Yes, thats the idea :D

I will be the first to admit, i dont really get involved with this sort of stuff much, which is why im struggling to get my head round it

I think you need a 12V relay with volt free contacts. An 8 or 11 pin with base will do nicely. All you do is connect the pair you need to switch (short circuit) to a set of normally open contacts on the relay base and it should work.

The 0V signal will be one of the pair and when the relay connects it to the other of the pair it will switch an NPN transistor on the gate board and away you go.

Of course, I could be talking out of my arse.

Talk to these guys:

Advanced Access Ltd

In my other life I am a locksmith, and i have done a bit of access control stuff (on doors not gates). When i have had queries in the past I have always found Advanced Access very helpful. They will happily give advice over the phone and, of course, will probably be able to supply you with components.

Good luck,

Gerry
