Eicr and insurance

Hi just wanted to ask. My electrician has told me that I need an eicr for my house. He said my house insurance won't cover me if I don't have one but I'm a bit confused because I have insurance. Do I still need the eicr to cover the insurance ?

Does this electrician have a direct line to your insurance company?

Please ask them what you have been told and ask them waht they advise.

When you sell an house often solicitors advise to have an EICR done

It's usually that way for industrial/commercial clients but not usually domestic.

The only way is to ring your insurance company and ask. They would probably advise but not mandatory.

With regard to insurance, EICRs tend to be required for rented properties and thatched properties not general domestic houses.

In the normal course of events, the insurance company will tell you that you need an EICR, then you tell an electrician that you need an EICR, the electrician then conducts the EICR.
If the insurance company haven't asked for an EICR, I wouldn't ask them if you need one, I'd just wait until they tell you that you need one, and get another electrician.
