Hello,

Got to test a domestic property and I’ve been told that there is an extension lead in the kitchen running from behind the units. They plug the fridge into the extension lead.

you can’t see the socket and the owner doesn’t know which cupboard it’s behind so do I need to start making holes to find it? Or could I put it down as a limitation?

any other suggestions please?

thanks

Behind a kick board maybe?
Same as if a giant American fridge freezer Or a wardrobe was sitting in front of a socket. You can’t spend all day moving furniture looking for it.

Note it down as inaccessible on your report

most reports have limitations like no carpets lifted etc

A quick check would be to pull the kick board out and have a peek, you never know.

The homeowner is gonna have a lot of fun if for whatever reason the fuse pops in that extension leado_O

A few years back, I rented a place that had a single isolator in the kitchen - for a free standing cooker. Fridge freezer was powered from a single socket behind it and, through a couple of extension leads, a microwave (above) and dishwasher (far side of kitchen) were also powered from the same socket. The landlord was quite happy with this arrangement.

I only discovered this when the diswasher died and had to be replaced. Behind it there was an empty wall box and presumably the isolator had been decomissioned and tiled over during a previous kitchen refit.

My one regret in life is not having fitted 5A fuses, to those extension leads, when I moved out.
