EICR Coding for ring ??

Hi all, just carrying out a EICR with a colleague of mine and fairly new Build house. Install is pretty good all tests came up good with no issues. But we were discussing the RFCs in the house they have 3 installed
1.Upstairs Ring
2. Downstairs Ring
3. Kitchen/Utility Ring
We were discussing if the kitchen and utility should be coding as on this ring there is 4 double sockets, W/M, T/D, D/W, F/F, and micro/grill, cooker hood. Would any of use code this as being a issue.
W/M - 2kw
T/D - 2kw
D/W - 2kw
Micro/grill - overall rating 2.2kw but on micro 800 watts and grill 900 watts.
Does it even require a code or is this standard wiring in domestic new builds ? Thanks in advance ?

Are you aware of the RECOMMENDATIONS that 2KW and above are to be on a separate circuit, it's only a recommendation, but worth noting in my opinion, although I'm sure there will be dissenters.

Yeah that’s a good point, doesn’t tend to get done that way from what I have seen in the past few houses though all kitchen/ utility on own ring from what I have seen. Yeah missed kettle out also?. Yeah so no code required as this is common practice?

A 32 amp ring will allow 7.36Kw before overloading the mcb, but you have to bare in mind that not every single item will be running at the same time. So no you should not code it anything.

The downstairs ring in the house I live in includes the kitchen and is on a 20A MCB, never tripped. We have W/M T/D, kettle, microwave, oven, air fryer, dishwasher and all the general downstairs power on that circuit

This recommendation really applies to permanently connected loads, it is not intended for appliances which are supplied with a 13a plug and designed to be plugged in to a socket outlet.

Does anyone know about the power consumption for the microwave/grill oven. The loading on the equipment states 900 watt on the front. But when you look at the label plate inside total load 2.2kw then states 900 watt microwave and then 800watt grill. Will this equipment ever get to 2.2kw or have they just put on combined load but when on micro only at 900watt and grill 800watt ? Thanks in advance ?

It will be the total load combined but with built in thermostats for the likes of the grille part, it will never get to that, plus can the grill and the microwave be on together or do that have to work independently?

Forget about it. Next week they might swap it for a 500W or even a 2Kw microwave oven. Its a portable appliance. Had there been a lack of outlets in the house that they were having to use extension leads or even worse multi adapters, then I would be concerned.
They are lucky to have a dedicated final ring circuit supplying just the Kitchen and Utility.

And just to answer your question, you can probably use both in combination so could well be 2.2Kw. The microwave may be capable of outputting 900W but its efficiency would mean it draws actually more when operating.

All my flat's sockets (except the kettle on oven switch) were on a single RFC from a 20A Wylex rewirable fuse MCB replacement for many years and only tripped twice - both times with a 13A fuse blowing on an appliance fault.

OK, I'm not a big user of power but it goes to show that the RFC is pretty tolerant of most household equipment!

Mine has one start button and different combination choices

with mine you have to select micro, grill, defrost, or combi , then select time, then press the ping button. then again, it's ancient. paid £8 at a car boot for it 15 years ago.

I think you’ll find the combi is the grill and microwave together. I could be wrong. Get your clamp meter on it

If you have 3 deep pan frozen pizzas in the freezer cook each one on a different setting, and see which cooks quicker
