I'm working on an article that dives into a big question: Are large commercial inspection and testing companies truly delivering quality, or are they just profit-driven machines cutting corners?

I’d love to hear from those who currently work (or have worked) for these larger organizations. What were your daily targets like? Were you ever expected to compromise on quality to meet those targets? And more importantly, what changes do you think could improve the industry?

Your insights and experiences could help shed some light on whether these companies are living up to their claims or simply chasing profits. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I think that in recent years it become more about profit than quality. I know of companies who charge as little as £6 per circuit. Yet, these companies revenue and profits go up. To be charging as little as £6 what sort of numbers are these companies testing on a daily basis. I want to know, has it always been like this?

400+ PAT a day and 60+ circuits a day do you think they are getting a good service.
It has become cut throat to get contracts and the only way you get them is by compromising quality with quantity.

Clients are just as much to blame as companies to be honest. They see an EICR is box ticking exercise, and they want the cheapest option. But with anything, you pay for what you get. What level of testing are you getting when you asking your people to go out there and test 60+ circuits in a shift.

The big companies are to blame. Yes the client sees it as a box ticking exercise but they put tenders out and see the prices being offered by the cut throat companies, it is them setting the market not the client.

A small contracting company relies on word of mouth and good feedback / reviews.

if you do work for 12 companies and have some spin off work from that, then all is good in the world.
A job gone bad or someone injured by something that has been missed on an EICR is likely to put a huge dent in your earnings for the foreseeable future.

A large company putting out 1000 jobs a year is always going to have some bad reviews but they are generally hidden amongst the ok and good reviews so never noticed.

at the end of the day, you just need to be honest with customers when it goes well or badly and make sure wherever possible that the customer is satisfied with what you have done.
